The ETSU Mary B. Martin School of the Arts is screening the new documentary film “Same God” at Monday, September 16 at 7 p.m. in ETSU’s Ball Hall Auditorium with the usual Q&A and reception with the indie filmmaker Linda Midgett to follow.
‘Same God’ focuses on the evangelical and social media firestorm that ensued when Dr. Larycia Hawkins, an African-American political science professor at Wheaton College, posted a photo of herself on Facebook in a hijab as a show of support for Muslim women. Director and Wheaton alumna Linda Midgett follows Hawkins’ journey, while exploring the polarization in the evangelical community and political arena over issues of race, Islam and religious freedom.
