I have been looking for online information most of the day, and came across this website about conserving water, which I thought might be very useful to some people. It's from the Environment Canada website. Many of the tips that are given are just common sense. But it offers some good explanations and diagrams, and calculations of savings too.
FYI...I was at a workshop on 8/31 and 9/1, where I also heard estimates of actual savings (in dollars) from some "green" programs at schools. Several of the teachers reported savings to their district in the tens of thousands of dollars per year!...per building, in some cases! That is truly phenomenal! There are so many ways we can improve our use of resources, just by becoming more conscious of the little things that matter. A drip here, and a drop there, can add up. A leak of just 1 drop per second wastes more than 2600 gallons of water a year! Anyway, here's the link for the household water site.
If it must rain on this holiday weekend, let's hope that Hurricane Lee just brings us a few days of slow and steady rain...the kind that soaks in!
Enjoy the long weekend!
