While this invitation was sent to our Christian members and friends, we also extend this invitation to other faith groups who share an interest in protecting the mountains of Tennessee. We need to be persistent and continue to raise awareness of the threats to our beautiful landscape, and to the health and wellbeing of the people who live there. We must unite and actively support legislation to block/ban mountaintop removal mining in this state. I believe this must be our highest priority in the next year. Please join me in helping to rally support, energize those who care, and make this happen in the next legislative session.

I fall back on the ancient Hebrew adage, "If not me, who? If not now, when?" and urge all GINI members to publicly "take a stand" on this issue in their homes, houses of worship, and communities.

40 Days of Prayer for the Mountains

LEAF, the Lindquist Environmental Appalachian Fellowship, invites all Tennessee Christians and Christian churches to join us in 40 Days of Prayer for the Mountains, Dec. 2, 2011- Jan. 10, 2012.

Three ways to participate:

Ø You can join LEAF in 40 days of daily prayer for God’s Creation.  Receive a specially selected prayer daily by subscribing to e-mail action alerts at www.tnleaf.org.

Ø Your church, Sunday school class or prayer group can lead a day of prayer. Your church or group may observe your leadership day in any way that you feel led. A special service, remembrance in a regular service, a vigil, creative event, nature outing or simply having group members commit to individual prayers for creation, are examples of ways to lead.

Ø You, your pastor, a local author, or anyone from your church can write a prayer for creation and post it to the LEAF web site and for consideration as one of the 40 specially selected daily prayers.  Prayers may be original or submitted with the permission of the author.

To sign up for a leadership day or submit a prayer, e-mail LEAF at: info@tnleaf.org.  To sign up to receive daily prayers and other action alerts, go to www.tnleaf.org.

LEAF works to raise awareness of the scriptural call to care for God’s creation and to stop mountain top removal coal mining in Tennessee. 40 Days of Prayer is an event sponsored by LEAF to unite and focus Tennessee Christians in prayerful support of political action on behalf of mountains.
