Event Description

Tennessee Regional Organizer

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is seeking full-time Regional Organizers, based in Memphis and Middle or East Tennessee, to develop volunteer leaders and teams for growing advocacy and earned media that will strengthen civic participation, ratepayer rights, energy efficiency and solar power at a state and local level.

Job Responsibilities
This role has overall responsibility for building local volunteer-led teams that recruit supporters, build relationships, and organize growing advocacy for the protection and advancement of clean energy policies. Responsibilities crucial to meeting goals will include:

  • Recruitment: building several volunteer led teams that grow advocacy over time begins with the Regional Organizers owning regular follow up and recruitment phone calls to likely supporters to offer opportunities to learn about the campaign, get involved and work with them – until volunteers and their teams are sustaining regular recruitment on their own.
  • 1-on-1 Relationship Building: regular meetings one-on-one to get to know supporters and learn about them and the best ways to include them in the work.
  • Organizing advocacy actions: organizing regular visits to key decision-makers, letter writing events, attendance at public meetings and other advocacy actions until they are volunteer led.
  • Train volunteers: as volunteers take more responsibility for organizing advocacy, you will need to provide training to develop the skills of your emerging leaders.
  • Developing organizing materials: working closely with the SACE Advocacy Team to develop materials to support your organizing work, like house party guides, training on recruitment etc.
  • Organizing Advocacy: recruit and manage volunteers to organize recurring advocacy (office visits, calls to key officials, Op-Eds, LTEs, digital etc)
  • Earned Media, Public Speaking: you will be responsible for helping your volunteers develop their ability to speak publicly and advocate, including through earned media and press events, testimony at public meetings, relationships with the media and pitching stories etc.
  • Reporting: report daily on activity to help inform strategy of the coalition and guide the work.
  • Regular Learning / Teaching to Strengthen Advocacy Work: we expect regular reflection and debrief of to explore what worked well and what didn’t so we can replicate best practices and make changes where necessary to become more effective.

Qualifications

  • Experience in community organizing or strong evidence of the ability to develop talent and leadership in other people.
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure and juggle several projects at one time.
  • Demonstrated excellence in learning quickly.
  • Commitment to clean energy policy and civic engagement.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues, clean energy, or policy advocacy is nice to have but not required.
  • Immediate availability in Tennessee.
