Imam Rafiq Mahdi is a native of Knoxville, TN. He embraced the faith of Islam at the age of 23 years. Having been raised in East TN as a Christian and educated in Arabic and Islamic Studies in the Middle East, Africa, and the Indian sub-continent Imam Rafiq brings a unique insight and prospective to the many questions non Muslim Americans have regarding Islam and Muslims. Imam Rafiq is a founding member and first vice president of The Muslim Community of Knoxville Inc. and he has served as Imam in Miami, FL, ( Islamic Center of Miami ) and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, ( Masjid Al-Iman ). He has lectured throughout the United States at churches, universities, schools and other venues. Imam Rafiq is currently working with The Islamic Circle of North America, “ICNA” as Director of Community Development in the Southeast region.
