Event Description

Rev. Regina Proctor of Franklin First UMC and Rev. Paul Slentz, Pastor for Creation Care and Environmental Justice for the Nashville District, invite all United Methodists in the Tennessee Conference to attend an inspiring day of exploring a “Sacred Calling to  Care for the Earth.”

When:  Saturday, Oct. 1, 8:30 am-4:00 pm

Where:  Franklin First United Methodist Church, 120 Aldersgate Way, Franklin, TN 37069 (near the intersection of Franklin Rd. and Mack Hatcher Parkway; the main entrance is on Mack Hatcher about a 1/4 mile west of Franklin Rd.  Only a 20-25 minute drive from downtown Nashville on a Saturday morning).  Franklin First has a strong creation care ministry.  They also have a large organic garden that provides food for low-income people; a butterfly/pollinators garden; and wild-life friendly meadows, stream, and woods on their 100+ acre grounds.  They use geo-thermal energy to help heat and cool their building. A great place to meet.

Content:

—  Keynote address by Matthew Anderson with the national Audubon Society staff.  Matthew is Vice President for Climate and Strategic Initiatives.  Matthew is also on the national board of Interfaith Power and Light.  He has extensive experience working with faith communities around issues of care for creation.

— Many workshops will be offered (more on those once all are set).

— Many activities for children ages 5 and up.

— Lunch will be provided with registration fee.

— Day will culminate with a presentation of the highly praised musical, The Council of Creatures, written and presented by Nashville musicians and TIPL-Nashville members, Jamey and Tammy Whiting.
