"Resources" ideas - please respond if you have thoughts

Mark & I were talking today about the "Resources" section of the site.

This is a very important section and it needs some more conversation as content is built over the next couple of weeks.

I think Greenfaith has a lot of related content already and GINI doesn't have to recreate the wheel but can link to a lot of things.  But some things will need to be written.

~ If you have thoughts, please respond to this blog post ~

Greenfaith has a main header tab called "Resource Center" that has 3 components and GINI's current site is modeled similarly.

Below I describe what Greenfaith has in these 3 components and my own thoughts on what GINI could have.

RESOURCE CENTER:

Their text on the main resource center page says "GreenFaith understands that for the religious community to make a difference for the environment, religious institutions and individuals must live out the value of stewardship in everyday action steps.  To this end, we provide...."

1) Spiritual page =materials for worship & links to education materials

-- links for designing a worship service centered around environmental issues

--environmentally themed prayers

--links to $$ children and adult education materials about the environment and faith

Things that could supplement this are book lists for good reads.  Does anyone know of essays or writings online that we could link to?  I really like the environmentally-themed prayers.

I would love it if we could offer materials for free, like a short study for a small group.   I wonder if there is something like this online already.

2) Stewardship page = a list of points of action that leads to other links about energy conservation, water conservation, lawn care, sustainable food guide, green purchasing, etc.

There are a lot of categories here. Do we want to highlight ALL these things or just focus on some? Again, I would love if we could have a printable hand-out or flier about the top 10 easiest things to do to make your home or faith community greener.

3) Advocacy page = documents about environmental justice and some links to organizations

--Document on environmental justice

--2 links to envrn organizations

--envr health links

I would like to see links and information more specific to TN.  How about you all feel about having a message that encourages contacting representatives along with a link to contact info for state and national reps?

We could have links to regional orgs, like LEAF & Appalachian Voices.

What do you all think? Is this a good way to organize the GINI page? What are the key pieces of information and content that you feel the GINI site needs to have here?

thanks!

Good point, Jerry.  I wasn't sure what to do with them. I can migrate them.

This resources section is progressing beautifully.  However, I would suggest removing the Jerry's Links heading and distributing items on that submission among the other headings. As it stands now that section is a mini-duplicate of the resources section as a whole.

1) Fixed the Eco-Justice tab

2) Added a Science Says tab (under resources) that links to the science page Carol created

Mark - I also have a question for Neil about creating pages that are able to be linked to internally but don't appear on the nav bar. I still haven't figured out how to do that.  If he has the time, I would love to bring my laptop over to his house and go through some things with him.

This is coming along nicely.  Would like to hear what Jerry has to say?

Would recommend a sentence or two at top of each of 3 pgs to describe page.  Maybe your headings do that, Emily?  I'm fine with Advocacy (but what about Eco-Advocacy?)

Carol, Neil is suppose to get back from vacation on Wed.  He promises to get to your Q on quick zap soon.

I like the new black tab bar, Emily -- easier to read.  thx.
