They say "Many hands make the work light."  We're thankful to have thirty hands planting, weeding, building tomato cages, and turning this little corner of our neighborhood into a beautiful garden.  We used natural fertilizer, no commercial pesticides, and our garden will soon be (relatively) weedless as we finish our program of "Lasagna Gardening."  This consists of laying down a couple layers of newspaper, then covering that with layers of mulched leaves (thank you Milligan grounds crew), dead weeds and clippings, etc.  For the present it doesn't allow the weeds to grow, and at the end of the season we will work it all into the soil.

A number of our gardeners are reading a book together, Bill McKibben's Deep Economy.  Stop by and see us sometime.  Check out more pictures here.

I am very impressed with the Milligan Garden.  Keep up the good work!  Allen and I started a very small, organic raised bed garden in June, and are excited to see growing plants! Can't wait to eat something from it later this summer, and looking forward to learning more about successful gardening!

Thanks for posting, Tim. Your community garden looks great! I have a very late start on my, but I trust the growing season will continue through September and I'll love whatever I get from it. Several people in GINI are interested in gardening, so this is a nice common thread for our group.
