Would you please take just a few moments to call Gov. Haslam, thanking him for supporting an end to mountaintop removal, and also urging him to help pass the Scenic Vistas Protection Act? (See urgent request below.) I've done it and it took less than 1.5 minutes. Please help.

Message received on Jan. 26th:

Dear Carol,

Last week I told you about the Tennessee Scenic Vistas Protection Act, and now I am writing to ask you to take a very important action with the potential to carry us to the finish line.

Governor Bill Haslam
Tennessee
(615) 741-2001

Will you take a minute to contact Governor Haslam at (615) 741-2001?

Politely thank him for his opposition to mountaintop removal and ask that he use his influence over the General Assembly to pass the Scenic Vistas Protection Act and end mountaintop removal in Tennessee. We have been busting our tails in Legislative Plaza in Nashville, speaking to church and community groups around the state, and ensuring that the media follows our every step. We are seeing progress in both houses of the General Assembly every day, and are very close to having enough votes to move the Scenic Vistas Act out of committee.

With your help, we can make that happen very soon.

During his campaign, Governor Haslam publicly stated his opposition to mountaintop removal. We applaud him for this; however, if the Governor is going support his words with actions, passing the Tennessee Scenic Vistas bill in 2012 is the best and most important chance he'll get. The Governor's influence will help motivate critical members of the House and Senate, and show that Tennessee is ready to move beyond destructive surface mining that tears down our mountains, poisons our water, and takes away our mining jobs.

Please call Governor Haslam at (615) 741-2001 and ask him to use his leadership to help pass the Scenic Vistas Protection Act and end mountaintop removal in Tennessee. To learn more about this legislation and mountaintop removal in Tennessee, please see http://iLoveMountains.org/tn-scenic-vistas, and feel free to email or call us with questions any time.

For the Mountains.
